Summary
Dry stripping paint can be hazardous. Please read the
following information before proceeding:
1 Safety notice
2 Removing the paint
Tools
Facemask, Goggles, Gloves, Paint Scraper, Glass Paper
Materials
Step 1 - Safety notice
Since the 1960s manufacturers have gradually reduced
the amount of lead in paint. However, while stripping
old paint there is a real danger of inhaling lead
vapour which will be released. With old paint, it is
recommended that you use a chemical stripper rather
than dry stripping. Always wear a facemask and goggles.
Step 2 - Removing the paint
There are two ways to dry remove paint. The first is
dry scraping but it is not recommended unless you can
be sure that the paint is lead free. The second is to
use an abrasive such as glass paper. Both methods create
the same problems with dust. Consider removing the paint
with chemicals or heat instead.
